Windows 10 Blinking Cursor Error At Boot up (2020).

Due to Windows 10 updates sometimes, your laptop or PC may fail at the boot up process and only show a blinking cursor and black screen and fail to load the WINDOWS 10 Operating system.

Friends you may get many options to solve this over net and You tube videos but I will tell the simplest and easiest method with 100% success provided your Hard Disk Drive is working and there is no hardware failure.

For this you will need

(i) another laptop or PC with administrator privileges

(ii) 8 GB or more pendrive

(iii) Internet connection to download 5 GB windows 10 bootable USB file.

At this stage I wish to caution the readers that you may get to see workaround for downloading  WINDOWS 10 USB Boot setup from android phones using APPS like Idroid or   etc suggested by various internet posts or videos. I will tell you it will not work and its a waste of time. If you dont have any secondary PC or Laptop simply take the help of your friends or office PC. But remember office PC should have administrator privileges. Many time due to security etc. Office PCs administrator settings are restricted. So you have to resolve that or take the help of your friends.

Now the process is very simple.

step I: Log onto https://www.microsoft.com/en-in/software-download/windows10 using another working computer with internet connection. Or simply google search " windows media creation tool download". You will see the above site on top of the results.

Step II:   Using the tool to create installation media:

  1. Select Download tool now, and select Run. You need to be an administrator to run this tool.
  2. If you agree to the license terms, select Accept.
  3. On the What do you want to do? page, select Create installation media for another PC, and then select Next.
  4. Select the language, edition, and architecture (64-bit or 32-bit) for Windows 10. This table will help you decide which edition of Windows 10 you’ll choose:

Your current edition of WindowsWindows 10 edition
    Windows 7 Starter
    Windows 7 Home Basic
    Windows 7 Home Premium
    Windows 7 Professional
    Windows 7 Ultimate
    Windows 8/8.1
    Windows 8.1 with Bing
    Windows 8 Pro
    Windows 8.1 Pro
Windows 8/8.1 Professional with Media Center
    Windows 8/8.1 Single Language
Windows 8 Single Language with Bing
    Windows 10 Home
    Windows 10 Pro
    Windows 10
    Windows 8/8.1 Chinese Language Edition
Windows 8 Chinese Language Edition with Bing
    Windows 10 Home China
  5. Select which media you want to use:
    • USB flash drive. Attach a blank USB flash drive with at least 8GB of space. Any content on the flash drive will be deleted.
    • This process may take upto 30 minutes depending upon speed of your internet connection. The size of downloaded files in around 4.58 GB, FAT 32 format type. It may vary upon the windows type you may have selected.

  6.  Step III: After you have finished downloading the above files in USB and process is finished eject the USB media/thumbdrive/Pen drive.
Step IV:  Now you are ready to restore your windows 10 operating system. Just start your corrupted/non working laptop by pressing Power Button. Immediately enter into BIOS settings by pressing F12 if on Lenovo or F2 button on your laptops. (You can google "how to enter bios in "your laptop type").

Step V: Go to Boot and choose external usb drive. The computer will restart. Please wait if blinking cursor is still appearing. After a minute you will see the language and operating system menu.
Now chose REPAIR OPTION  first instead of INSTALL NOW option . Select TROUBLE SHOOT and then select START UP REPAIR. If startup repair doesnt work with you try other troubleshooting options like uninstall updates or system restore.

After a few reboots your PC is ready as before with message that a few of the updates have been removed as they were not compatible with your PC etc.

With this I hope you will be able to get back your PC/LAPTOP Working.
